Placement tips
The ideal location for the staircase is in the South, South-West, or West part of the house.
Stairs should always ascend from East to West or North to South (clockwise rotation when viewed from above).
The total number of steps should be an odd number — ending on a step rather than a landing is considered auspicious.
Ensure stairs have a wall on both sides or at minimum on one side — open staircases on both sides create instability.
Avoid placing a toilet under the staircase as this creates negative energy at the growth point of the home.
Do
Keep staircases well-lit — poorly lit stairs create fear energy and are a Vastu defect.
Paint staircases in light, warm colors (light yellow, cream, off-white) to maintain positive upward movement energy.
Place a small deity image or auspicious symbol at the base of the staircase to bless upward movement.
Avoid
Never place the staircase in the North-East (Ishanya) corner — this is the most inauspicious location and is believed to cause significant financial and health problems.
Do not place the staircase in the center of the house (the Brahmasthaan) — the center should always be open and empty.
Avoid broken or loose steps — repair immediately as they create obstacles in life's progress.
