Placement tips
Place the deity idols or images on the East or North wall so that the devotee faces East or North while worshipping.
Idols should not directly touch the wall; keep at least one inch of space behind them for energy circulation.
Use marble, white stone, or natural wood for the puja altar to maintain purity and sanctity.
Keep the puja room at a height that allows comfortable worship; never install a puja shelf directly on the floor.
Do
Light a deepam (oil lamp) daily in the puja room, ideally placing it in the South-East of the altar facing the deity.
Keep fresh flowers, incense, and clean sacred items in the puja room to maintain high vibrational energy.
Ensure the puja room door or entrance faces East so the first rays of morning sunlight bless the sacred space.
Avoid
Never place the puja room inside the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, or under a staircase.
Do not keep broken or chipped idols, as they are considered inauspicious and should be immersed in flowing water.
Avoid storing non-sacred items, medicines, shoes, or footwear near or below the puja shelf.
