South-Facing House
About this guide
South-facing houses are often misunderstood as universally inauspicious, but classical Vastu Shastra clarifies that they can bring success, fame, and strong social standing when the correct entrance pada and interior layout are followed. The South is governed by Yama and Mars, and when properly balanced, this directional energy brings determination, courage, and public recognition.

Placement tips
The main entrance of a South-facing house should be in the 4th pada (counting from the East side of the South wall) to harness the most auspicious South energy.
Ensure the South and South-West compound walls are heavier and taller than the North and East boundaries.
Place the master bedroom in the South-West to stabilize the powerful Yama energy of this facing.
Use the color red or deep orange sparingly in South-facing living spaces to honor Mars energy without overstimulating it.
Do
Keep the South compound wall taller and stronger than the North wall to contain and channel the South energy correctly.
Place the staircase in the South, South-East, or South-West to use the heavier energy of these zones constructively.
Install a Vastu yantra or Mangal yantra near the South entrance if needed for energetic stabilization.
Avoid
Do not place the main entrance in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 5th to 9th pada of the South wall — only the 4th pada is auspicious.
Avoid keeping the North and East zones heavy or blocked, as this prevents beneficial energy from flowing into the house.
Never leave the South-West corner of the plot empty or lower than the rest of the compound.
